If anyone can remember back in November 2009 BMW revealed the new concept 6 model at Milan. Along with revealing this concept they also announced the engine would power the K-series tourers in the future. Well the future may be just round the corner and the K1600GT/K1600GTL which could be using this engine.
The BMW K1600GT is designed to be more sporty than the K1600GTL as the seat is upright. The K1600GTL has been designed for the longer length rides and to be overall more comfortable. This is because the K1600GTL footrest is placed lower and further forward and the handlebars reach further backwards. because of this the K1600GTL allows you to sit in a more comfortable position and makes you feel more relaxed while riding. Both models come with a removable panniers but the K1600GTL comes with a topcase.
Both models will run on the same 1649cc 6 cylinder engine which weighs an estimated 226lbs. BMW are claiming the engine has 160 hp and 7500 rpm with torque around 129 ft-lb at 5000 rpm. The bmw is also equipped with the BMW E-gas ride-by-wire throttle system. This system has 3 modes Dynamic, Rain and the most obvious Road which are all available at the push of a button.
Although the engine has been the talking point about K1600GT and K1600GTL models, BMW have not skipped all other details. The chassis is based on the current K-series and an ESA ll (Electronic suspension adjustment) which is for switching between Sport, Normal and Comfort settings is on both the K1600GT and K1600GTL. Also both models will come with the BMW EVO brake system, ABS and the Dynamic Traction Control system taken from the BMW S1000RR.
So judging from the spec and information both the BMW K1600GT and K1600GTL look to be pretty impressive and if you are looking for a new motorcycle maybe test driving one of these in the future would be ideal but with no release date or price tag as yet it could cost you quite a lot.
