As many of you may know Britain doesn’t have the most beautiful roads, infact some motorists find the scenery quite depressing and demoralising. MCN (Motorcycle news) have compiled a list of the top 10 most depressing roads in Britain according to thousands of motorcyclists. So the list goes;
- The M25
- The M6 along the Birmingham stretch
- The A1 Holloway Road, London
- The M5 near Bristol
- The M8 between Glasgow and Edinburgh
- The A12
- The M5 northbound between junctions 12 and 10
- The A361 near Glastonbury in Somerset
- The A30 near Bodmin in Cornwall
- The A338 between Great Shefford and junction 14 of the M4
The reasons why these roads where picked as the most depressing are; pot holes (65 per cent), traffic jams (61 per cent) and speed cameras (31 per cent). All the people that took part in the survey decided these where the main reasons why riding a motorcycle in Britain is no longer a joy and what roads are hampering the experience.
What can be done to “improve” Britain’s tragic road quality and the overall experience of riding a motorcycle (or even a car) around Britain? Well around 23 per cent of motorcyclist’s have suggested filling in and repairing all pot holes in 48 hours to the Transport Secretary Philip Hammond. Apparently on average a motorist will have to avoid 13 potholes on a standard daily ride with 27 per cent of people experiencing up to 20 pot holes per journey. With statistics like this it does beg the question why did the council let our roads get in such poor condition. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to comment on this post with anything you feel can improve Britain’s roads.
